Animal Care Workshops

Inclusive learning for 8-14 year olds working towards ASDAN Animal Care Short Course credits taught by experienced teacher Leonie Mattingley. Everyone works together on challenges at their own level. Accreditation is via hours worked and completed challenges.

About the course

This programme follows the ASDAN Animal Care short course and can accredit between 10 and 60 hours of activities and involvement in caring for animals.

Topics covered across the whole course range from looking after pets to learning more about wildlife and farm animals.

Accreditation from this course can be useful for personal statements and also to demonstrate interest in vocational subjects that are not typically taught in school. Likewise animal care is a practical way to use knowledge learned in science.

In these workshops learners will be able to obtain one credit for each 10 hours of group and individual learning. Learning is multi-level with each learner working at the level of their own ability.

Further sessions in term time and other holidays and beyond will enable learners to gain further credits.

Each 10 hour block of sessions stands alone and will have its own subject area and activities so that blocks can be attended as and when these suit the child and family without repeating material or not being able to proceed due to having missed a block.

“The ASDAN groups have been great for my child. Learners love Vicky and Leonie and what they learn in the groups is so useful and practical. Everyone is included and no one is left behind and yet all the kids are being stretched.”
